Women's Soap Making Class

NOTICE: Class rescheduled to Sat July 30th, 1p-3p

I will place an order for loaf-style soap molds about a week before the class.  The cost will be $13.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Basic Soap Recipe

We will be making a basic soap recipe with ingredients that are readily available and can be purchased locally.  This class is for women 18 years and older.


Cost: $15


Recipe (provided)

10 oz olive oil
20 oz 
coconut oil
9 oz distilled water
4.78 oz 100% 
pure lye


Equipment - most equipment will be provided but you will need a soap mold of some type.  Please let me know at least a week ahead of time if you would like to order a loaf soap mold for $13.

** NOTICE** No Aluminum!!  Lye reacts with aluminum

  • Thermometer
  • Digital scale (3 available)
  • Immersion (stick) blender (4 available)
  • Measuring cup for lye
  • Measuring cup for oils
  • Pitcher for mixing water and lye solution
  • Pan or pot for heating oil
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Soap mold with silicone liner or parchment **Please bring something

almost any heat-proof, non-aluminum container can be used if lined with parchment, i.e. pie pan, empty oatmeal box, loaf pan...

  • Parchment
  • Safety goggles or face shield
  • Latex, nitrile or other type of protective glove
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic bags
  • Table cover
  • Long sleeve shirt

**Please be aware that heat-proof plastics can absorb lye. If you use plastic equipment, it should no longer be used for cooking.


When it comes to plastic, choose containers with the plastic code #5 on it, which means that the container is made from polypropylene. It can take the high heat and is sturdy.
